Winter

Those who come to Obertilliach, which lies in the Hochpustertal on a sunny ledge in front of the impressive backdrop of the Carnic Alps, are looking for peace and quiet amidst a truly picture-postcard landscape and can enjoy genuine Tyrolean hospitality at the traditional and family-run accommodation and gastronomy.

At the Golzentipp ski resort, the quiet atmosphere for families meets a wealth of snow. You have the pistes almost to yourself and will look in vain for long queues at the lifts. Grandma and granddad can also applaud the young ones as they stroll along, as they practice at the ski school down in the valley while the parents carve their trails through the snowy paradise reaching up to an altitude of 2248 metres.

The snow conditions also delight top sportspeople training at the cross-country skiing and biathlon centre on the edge of the little village. National teams from a wide range of countries prepare for the season here and with a bit of luck you may bump into one of the Nordic stars who regularly frequent Obertilliach. Already from the middle or end of November there is enough snow to glide through the pristine nature on luxury trails that are freshly prepared daily. The 60-kilometre-long Grenzlandloipe trail is legendary, leading through Tiroler Gailtal and Lesachtal across to Carinthia. The Höhenloipe trail at Golzentipp offers a wealth of views, starting right by the peak station and running 6 km through the undulating terrain.

A fun sledge tour from the Golzentipp mountain station into the valley, or vice versa ski touring up to the peak of Golzentipp, round off the winter adventure holiday.
